Johnny Borrell Claims Band Considered Ditching Razorlight Name

Razorlight guitarist and vocalist Johnny Borrell admitted that he came close to changing the band’s name, following the departure of bandmates Carl Dalemo and Björn Agren.
Apart from founding member Borrell, the line-up of the band has completely changed since Andy Burrow’s exit in 2009, with a new drummer, bassist and lead guitarist arriving in the form of David Kaplan, Freddie Stitz and Gus Robertson respectively.
And with a virtually brand-new line up, a name change wouldn’t have been a surprising move. But the singer explained why he decided against the change, following on from their disappointing 2008 album ‘Slipway Fires’, which failed to chart.
“I thought about changing our name from Razorlight. But we had two records that were slam-dunks, before the third one missed the target. I couldn't stand the thought of that miss being Razorlight's legacy.
“Right now I don't mind if our return doesn't succeed because we're going to make an amazing album and have the best time making it.”
