Maverick Sabre - Let Me Go (Single Review)

Having guested on tracks with Chase and Status and collaborated with several other rappers and Irish R&B artists, it seems only fair that Maverick Sabre would get his time in the limelight now.

ImageMaverick Sabre’s debut self-titled studio album is due to be released in November 2011, but ahead of that, he’s released the single ‘Let Me Go’, which – encouragingly - has already peaked at number 2 in the UK singles charts.

First receiving airplay on BBC Radio 1 Extra in May 2011, ‘Let Me Go’ is set to be a hit with R&B, rap and alternative music fans alike. The video has already racked up more than one million views on You Tube, and sources have stated that his recent showcase performances have attracted attention from both booking agents and press.

With samples from Portishead’s ‘Glory Box’, extremely Ronson-esque brass throughout, and Maverick Sabre’s distinctive vocals, ‘Let Me Go’ combines elements which should all add up to a pop hit. Clocking in at 3 minutes 37 seconds, further making this track the almost perfect pop song, there doesn’t seem to be a reason not to love Maverick Sabre. Apart from the feeling that it’s perhaps all been done before...

Unfortunately, Maverick Sabre is unlikely to ever be able to shake the criticism that he’s no more than just a Plan B imitation, - unless he really surprises us with the rest of his debut album. ‘Let Me Go’ is well produced in terms of both the track and the music video, certainly proving that there hasn’t been much expense spared in the creation of Maverick Sabre. Although the song is hooky and has already achieved a great chart position, ‘Let Me Go’ doesn’t seem memorable enough to be anything groundbreaking.
