New York-based indie rockers Blonde Redhead have made an EP of remixes available via the website of their record label 4AD – the EP can be downloaded or listened to below. The six tracks are reworkings of songs from last year’s ‘Penny Sparkle’ album by artists including Pantha du Prince, Salem, Games, Becoming Real and Kastellet. The EP features three versions of album opener ‘Here Sometimes’, including one by Gayngs – a musical collective featuring Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce of Bon Iver and Har Mar Superstar. Blonde Redhead will be touring Europe in August and September, with shows scheduled in London and Manchester – see below for dates and tickets.
Blonde Redhead were formed in New York in 1993 by twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace and vocalist Kazu Makino. In 1995, they released their eponymous debut album, which was produced by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and released through Shelley’s Smells Like Records. The trio have released eight albums to date, including last year’s ‘Penny Sparkle’. In 2004, they released ‘Misery is a Butterfly’, their first album through 4AD, which was produced by Fugazi guitarist Guy Piccioto, who had also worked with them on their previous two albums. Its successor ‘23’ is the group’s highest-charting album in the US and their first to chart in the UK.
