Steps Reunite For Sky Living Documentary

As Stereoboard reported yesterday, Steps will be reuniting for a four-part Sky Living documentary – and possibly, writing new material and scheduling a tour. We now know more about what the documentary, which will show the ex-stars of Steps’ current lifestyle, and whether they have a chance of returning to the pop scene.

But before the famous five can move forward they must face the past. The documentary will capture the group as they recount their experiences whilst in Steps, the reasons behind the decision to disband, and their unresolved grievances from their days in the spotlight. The sentimental, nostalgic and often fiery encounters will be played out against the backdrop of the band’s possible re-launch onto the UK music scene including going back to the recording studio and attending publicity events.

Michael Kelpie, Creative Director of Entertainment, ITV Studios said, "Steps came, they entertained and then went their separate ways. Their split was acrimonious, messy and played out on the front pages of the national newspapers."

"This documentary series reveals the truths behind the polished pop façade that led to the break-up of one of the most successful pop acts in the UK. Intimate, honest and revealing Steps will face their demons as they try to rebuild both personal and working relationships. It will undoubtedly be explosive viewing."

Mark Sammon, Head of Factual Entertainment at Sky, is equally interested in the behind-the-scenes view we'll get of the cheesy pop group.

"We'll document the in-fighting, Jealousy and power struggles," said Sammon. "It's not the sugar-coated Steps we all remember. I’m delighted this British Pop phenomenon has given us access to their stories. And we can expect tears and dramatic confrontation as they attempt to put the past behind them and re-launch Steps 10 years on from their split.’

Richard Connell, General Manager for Sony Music CMG said “We are thrilled that Steps are working together again as we’ve really missed them for the last ten years. With the ‘Ultimate Collection’ coming soon and the documentary on Sky Living it looks like Steps will again be putting the fun back in pop at a time when we need it the most. We can’t wait to hear the band remininiscing and running through all their classics - ‘Tragedy’, ‘One For Sorrow’, ‘Deeper Shade Of Blue’, ‘5,6,7,8’, and all the others.”

So Steps fans now at least now what they can expect from the series - I can imagine some hardcore Steps lovers are foaming at the mouth thinking of the group performing their old hits. But you’re going to have to wait a while longer until you find out whether Steps will be able to stick together for a tour – Stereoboard will update you as soon as it’s known.
