Metallica Forced To Cancel First Ever Indian Appearance - Fans Riot

For one of the most iconic and highly-regarded metal bands of all time, Metallica sure know how to piss off their fans.

Following 2001’s 'St Anger', which drew a mostly negative reaction from fans after the band dropped their thrashy, guitar solo, heavy sound, and their documentary 'Some Kind of Monster', which detailed their return to music following rehab and arguments, the band weren’t in fan's good books.

Despite releasing ‘Death Magnetic’, an album more like their classic sound, their latest offering ‘Lulu’, a collaboration project with Lou Reed, has disappointed fans once again with one critic writing: “It is incongruous and doesn't work.”

Now, without much doing of their own, Metallica have angered thousands of Indian fans after they were forced to cancel what would have been the band's first ever show in the country. The cancellation was down to poor organisation after the number of tickets sold massively exceeded the venue's capacity, forcing Metallica to postpone and eventually cancel the show. The move lead to four of the chiefs being arrested and the whole of the crowd turning crazy, rushing the stage and destroying equipment.

James Hetfield and co. apologised to the fans in New Delhi, saying: “We were looking forward to our first experience in India as much as you guys were,” as well as declaring that everyone will receive refunds.

Luckily, the band managed to go ahead with their performance in Bangalore today after major concerns that this gig would get cancelled too. Hetfield was happy with the band’s first Indian performance in their illustrious 30-year career, and said: “India has been a life-changing experience for us.”
