Metallica Rumoured For Download Headline Slot - Zane Lowe Announcement Tonight

Thrash metal legends Metallica could be confirmed as Download 2012 headliners this evening, it has been rumoured.

As usual, Zane Lowe will be making a number of Download Festival announcements during the run up to next summer’s festival circuit, where the Radio 1 presenter will reveal a lot of the acts that’ll be tearing up the stage next year.

His first announcement is set for tonight at 7.20pm – and although it’s the first announcement, fans have already got a good idea at who’s going to be called out first - because Lars Ulrich, ‘Tallica’s legendary drummer, is also due to appear on the show, right around the same time as the announcement will be made.

Download chief Andy Copping also told fans through his Twitter account that there would be “Just one big fuck off headliner tomorrow but with a killer twist...I look forward to the meh's ... I miss them.” Copping’s ‘killer twist’ and ‘meh’ comments could be referring to the fact that Lou Reed could join Metallica on stage as they’ve just finished and release ‘Lulu’ – an album which fans are loving to hate.

But, you never know, the killer twist announcement could be anyone – Queen are looking for a new singer, Black Sabbath are making a huge announcement tomorrow, and Van Halen are expected to be making a huge comeback any time in the near future, so there is opportunity for anyone to steal the limelight come 7.20pm.
