Johnny Marr Banned From Driving For 8 Weeks

The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has reportedly been banned from driving for 8 weeks, after he was caught driving at 72mph in a 40mph zone.

According to the Daily Mirror, the guitarist narrowly avoided being banned for six months, only escaping because of a technicality in court which meant that the case should’ve been heard before two more accounts of speeding were added to his license. Marr didn’t attend the hearing but plead guilty via his representative Gwyn Lewis, who told the court “It was something he deeply regrets and it is the first time he has been banned from the roads.”

Marr was also hit with a fine of £535, which he’ll hopefully be able to pay off when he’s finished working on material with his band The Healers. They have been in the studio since September, with singer Andrew Schofield (who was using the studio opposite the band) saying: “Johnny and The Healers sounding great next door!”
