Superstar soul singer Adele has become the first artist ever to earn a double platinum classification from iTunes, after her album ‘21’ surpassed a humungous 2million sales earlier in the month.
The huge-selling record came out over a year ago but has seen massive rises in sales since its release, with 730,000 units shifted in just this week alone in the US, following her successful evening at the Grammy awards ceremony. This has meant that ‘21’ has spent its 21st week atop of the Billboard 200 chart – making Adele the longest-running female artist to stay at #1.
Worldwide, ‘21’ has sold over 18million records – with that figure set to rise when the latest figures are added to the equation, making the record the highest selling album of 2011 by a million miles. Which is probably how she just managed to buy a £7million mansion that’s so big that Adele has applied for helicopter license just to help her get around faster than by a car.
But, no matter how many albums she’s sold, it didn’t stop BRIT Award chiefs cutting her acceptance speech short on Tuesday – causing the Tottenham-based singer to flip the middle finger to ‘the men in suits’.
