The Chevin - Blue Eyes (Single Review)

Maybe you haven't heard of the band The Chevin, well up until yesterday neither had I. But now I can tell you that they are a rock four piece from North Yorkshire; between the inspiringly beautifully bare rolling moors which feature in the video for their new single 'Blue Eyes' and no less romantically, Leeds (well maybe it's little less romantic).

ImageTheir previous single 'Drive' could have been a Killers record such was the epic feel and use of the softly powerful lyrics, while this song seems to be a little more in the Johnny Cash vein. The track features classic, electric and bass guitars as well as drums and vocals which ebb and flow throughout till the final peak of the song, the last wavering note. It all adds up to making a song that's like golden syrup for the ears- do not try at home.

One way to describe this latest effort by The Chevin or t' Chevin to give them their correct Yorkshire-ish pronunciation, would be to say it was like the heartfelt last number at the end of your local open mic night, crescendoing, soulful and intimate but without being to obstinately folksy or indie. It's nice music, I would let my Nan listen (cue interview where t' Chevin reveal that the chorus lyrics "the way its meant to be there's no surprise, when I'm staring in your blue eyes" are actually about drug abuse or biological warfare or dogging).

So this song won't drastically change the world but it might make it just a little bit nicer.

'Blue Eyes' is available for free download now from the website www.rhythmcircus.co.uk. If you like what you hear, the album 'Borderlands' is due for release September 3rd.
