Mac Miller Dies Aged 26

Friday, 07 September 2018 Written by Huw Baines

Mac Miller has died aged 26.

Billboard and Variety confirmed the news, while the Los Angeles Times reports that the rapper was found dead from an apparent overdose at his San Fernando Valley home on September 7.

In a statement, Miller's family said: “Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Originally from Pittsburgh, Miller broke through with his ‘K.I.D.S’ mixtape in 2010 and the following year’s debut LP ‘Blue Slide Park’. His latest album, ‘Swimming’, hit shelves last month and he was shortly about to begin touring behind the collection. He had been open in the past about issues with substance abuse.

Among those to pay tribute to Miller were J.Cole, Earl Sweatshirt, Solange, Pusha T, El-P, Questlove, Diplo and Chance The Rapper, who wrote on Twitter: “I dont know what to say Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever. But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him.”

When we last spoke to Fliptrix nearly two years ago, he described the UK hip hop scene as being “in the best place it's ever been”. It was obvious why he was in a buoyant mood: in the space of 12 months, he'd worked with legendary producer DJ Premier on a track for his Four Owls project and signed chart-busting up-and-comer Ocean Wisdom to High Focus, the underground label he runs from London. But having released six stellar LPs over 10 years, the one thing he deserved more recognition for was his own music.
YG - Stay Dangerous (Album Review)

‘Stay Dangerous’ is the third studio album from Los Angeles rapper YG, an artist who burst onto the scene with his 2014 debut ‘My Krazy Life’. It's a record that, despite impressive moments, demonstrates how he has struggled to find a distinctive musical voice in a highly saturated hip-hop scene.
Mac Miller - Swimming (Album Review)
Tue 21 Aug 2018
Few artists have managed to pivot as effectively as rapper and producer Mac Miller, at least in the eyes of his peers. The Pittsburgh-born up-and-comer's 2011 debut 'Blue Slide Park', a hipster-friendly party rap album in the vein of Asher Roth, was as disposable as it was inoffensive.
