Avril Lavigne Announces New Album 'Head Above Water', Shares Second Single Tell Me It's Over

Thursday, 13 December 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Avril Lavigne has announced her first album in five years.

'Head Above Water', the follow up to her 2013 self-titled LP, will arrive on February 15. “I feel like I’ve really opened up on this record more than I ever have before," she said. "Each song tells a story that will hopefully inspire others to believe in themselves and stand up for what they know is right and what they truly deserve!”

We've already heard the title track, which she released earlier in the year. Now head below to check out the record's artwork, tracklist and new single, Tell Me It's Over. The song is a pop take on a big band ballad, while the video echoes the sentiment of the lyrics, with Lavigne contuning to allowing a partner back into her life. "Tell me it's over, if it's really over, 'cos it don't feel it's over whenever you're closing the door," she sings.

'Head Above Water' tracklist:

1. Head Above Water
2. Birdie
3. I Fell In Love With The Devil
4. Tell Me It’s Over
5. Dumb Blonde
6. It Was In Me
7. Souvenir
8. Crush
9. Goddess
10. Bigger Wow
11. Love Me Insane
12. Warrior

It can sometimes be difficult for an artist to capture the zeitgeist. Even if they know what to say, they often struggle to find the right way to say it. Not so for Matt Healy and his 1975, who haven’t just captured the zeitgeist—they’ve wrestled it into submission, stuffed it in a cage and made it perform tricks for our amusement.

I absent-mindedly scroll Twitter in a glass shelter as the December cold gets its claws in. Before skipping over a review of the latest Jungle Book remake I’m stopped mid-feed by an autoplay video. Julia Roberts dances in a subway carriage for the New York Times. She grins, the plastic chairs smile back with yellow and orange teeth. The sound is off—my headphones are still playing Hop Along’s Not Abel. The weird thing is, that song won’t yield the floor. Instead it steps in to lead.
