Drummer Janet Weiss Announces Departure From Sleater-Kinney

Janet Weiss has announced her departure from Sleater-Kinney.
The drummer joined the alt-rock outfit in 1996, two years after Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein formed the band. Together they went on to release ‘Dig Me Out’ in 1997 and five albums following that, including their comeback record 'No Cities To Love, which dropped in 2015.
Weiss said in a statement: “The band is heading in a new direction and it is time for me to move on,” while her former bandmates responded by thanking Weiss for the journey they have taken together over the years.
Sleater-Kinney are set to release their St. Vincent-produced new album, ‘The Centre Won’t Hold’, on August 16 via Mom+Pop. They'll support the record with a North American tour this fall and shows in the UK and Ireland in February 2020. Weiss' replacement for these shows is yet to be announced.
