Bodega Release New 'Shiny New Model' Single Knife On The Platter

Tuesday, 01 October 2019 Written by Helen Payne

Bodega have released a new single.

Knife On The Platter is the second cut from the Brooklyn art punks’ new mini album, following on from the title track’s August release.

The new song utilises reverberated, widescreen chord strums over a striking bassline and the same recognisable shouted vocals that Bodega employed heavily on their debut, ‘Endless Scroll’, last year. Singer Ben Hozie commented:

"Knife on the Platter is a narrative song : I was imagining a top notch Gena Rowlands-esque actress who is cast in a mediocre gothic who nonetheless elevates the script's schlocky material through her absolute commitment to authentically live each moment of the play. She performs as if the gods are watching - she 'acts' as if each gesture will be set in stone for the future to see. That's a show business trick - when performing imagine your heroes are in the room. You will no longer mess around. Twice in the song Zeus responds via the lightning striking from Madison's guitar. That's the thing: even when you are totally alone and lost - someone is (or will always be) watching your actions. Choose wisely."

‘Shiny New Model’ is due to arrive on October 11 via What’s Your Rupture? and the band are set to support Starcrawler on tour in North America this fall.

Bodega are the art school kids who might sneer at you for Instagramming a picture at their show. They’re the ones who, after a convincing “this isn’t satire”, order their audience to check their emails during the next song. Bodega roll out lines like “I touch myself while staring at your chat text box” and “I use my computer for everything, heaven knows I’m miserable now.” Their message: we are dominated by consumer culture and technology is taking over our lives.
