Duffy Unveils New Track River In The Sky

Thursday, 18 June 2020 Written by Sophie Williams

Duffy has shared her second track of the year.

The deeply emotive, piano-led River In The Sky, which the Welsh vocalist captioned on Instagram as a song “for the better days to come,” utilises instrumental sparseness to throw her dulcet tones into relief. Listen below.

She said: “I never knew if I would get to the place of being able to do this, I am grateful to get here. Not everyone has the privilege of being able to talk, such as I am doing today.

"Finally, the realisation that the very thing that hurt me, will become the very thing that heals me. I faced a deeply inhumane experience; only humanity can heal that. River In The Sky discusses sorrow and the desire to be unburdened."

The soulful track follows the previously released Something Beautiful, which was accompanied by a now-deleted Instagram post where the 35-year-old bravely disclosed a harrowing account of how she was drugged, raped and held captive over a week by an unidentified individual a few years ago.

It is currently unclear whether Duffy is currently working on a follow-up to her last album, 2010’s ‘Endlessly’.
