Elbow And Everything Everything Among First Acts Booked For Passport: Back To Our Roots Gig Series

Monday, 10 August 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

The first round of acts have been revealed for Passport: Back To Our Roots, a nationwide series of intimate shows by the UK's biggest artists to benefit independent grassroots venues at risk of closure.

Elbow and Everything Everything lead the first announcement, with the former returning to Night and Day 30 years since they first performed at the Manchester venue, while the latter will play Bedford's Esquires.

Also announced are Public Service Broadcasting, who'll take to the stage at the Amersham Arms in New Cross, London, while the Slow Readers Club will call at the Hebden Bridge Trades Club. Futher acts and locations are still to be announced.

Elbow's Guy Garvey said:

"This is a simple way of looking after the very roots of British music, and will result in some powerful, joyous shows when we can at last see each other again. I’m very proud to be involved."

Jez from Everything Everything added:

"Like all artists worth their salt, we came up through smaller rooms and tiny stages, learning our craft as we went. So often these vital venues are run on a shoestring, but what they provide to their community socially and artistically is invaluable. The Back to Our Roots project is helping grassroots music venues back on their feet after these testing times. We wanted to come to Esquires [in Bedford] as it's exactly the sort of gig we’d have done ten years ago, but actually never had the opportunity to. It’s our pleasure to be involved."

Dates for the gigs will be confirmed soon, although they're not expected to take place until it's safe to perform without social distancing. Entry, meanwhile, is available by ballot only, with the draw open for two weeks from August 17. Fans are asked to donate a minimum of £5 to the campaign via its Crowdfunder page, with the lucky winners given two tickets for the show of their choice.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Elbow's tour behind their 'Giants of All Sizes' LP has been rescheduled to 2021. Everything Everything, meanwhile, have lined up a UK and Ireland trek for spring, which is also when the Slow Readers Club will hit the road for their rescheduled UK and European tour.
