Mxmtoon has released a collaborative single with Carly Rae Jepsen.
OK On Your Own has a welcoming bedroom pop aesthetic to it that sets a ukulele-laden melody behind Maia's soft vocals. It follows the previously shared Bon Iver that landed in August, serving as the first preview of the YouTube sensation turned pop artist's forthcoming 'Dusk' EP, out on October 1.
It arrives after the Oakland-raised, Brooklyn-based artist took to social media to tease the track. In an excitable Twitter post, she wrote: "aaaa i made a song with @carlyraejepsen! it's called "ok on your own" and it's out THIS WEDNESDAY!". Upon sharing the track, she said in a statement:
"I was beyond excited to work on this track and have it be graced by Carly Rae Jepsen, someone who stands for empowerment and knows the themes of love and loneliness all too well. My hope for the song is that OK On Your Own can let people know that vulnerability is never something to be afraid of, and admitting you need time for yourself and support from a friend is sometimes a necessary step.
"Sometimes relationships aren’t meant to work. It's a bitter reality that many of us come to terms with at one point or another, but we all have to realize our own self-worth before letting certain people into our lives! OK On Your Own is your reminder that stepping away from a relationship isn’t a sign of weakness, but rather one of strength!"
'Dusk' serves as a companion piece to the 20-year-old's 'Dawn' EP, which was released back in April. Prior to its arrival, she'll launch the first episode of her new podcast 365 days with mxmtoon on September 14.
