Maxïmo Park have returned with their first new music in four years.

Child Of The Flatlands is an allegoric psych-pop composition that reflects on nature and urbanised landscapes.

It comes accompanied by a kaleidoscopic video created by experimental visual artist Greg Hodgson. Discussing it, vocalist Paul Smith said:

"Child Of The Flatlands is an affectionate look at the spaces on the outskirts of the city where I grew up, both physically and psychically, all emphasized by images of modern Britain seen from a distant hill. The song talks about the inevitability of nature (in every sense of the word) about the order we try to give. The quiet and melancholy choruses lament the loss of common spaces for the marginalized, and the rhythm in general is meant to evoke a long walk, combining found sounds, strings and a constant piano to create a sweetly psychedelic pop odyssey.

We asked Greg Hodgson to render the distorted blur of youth through his VHS lens and to create a dream vision of Teesside that reflected the episodic nature of the music. We hope that viewers recognize something of their past youth by playing in places where nature invades the urban landscape."

There's still no news on the follow-up to the Newcastle band’s last album, 2017's 'Risk To Exist'.
