Previously Unreleased Prince Song I Need A Man Shared From 'Sign O' The Times' Box Set

Friday, 18 September 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

A previously unreleased Prince song has been unveiled.

I Need A Man is one of over 40 unheard cuts that will appear on the forthcoming reissue of the late funk legend's 1987 full-length, 'Sign O'The Times'. Out on September 25, the huge eight-CD/13-LP box set will also contain a vast array of rare gems, including live recordings, deep cuts and unseen photographs.

Recorded at Washington Avenue Warehouse on January 22, 1987, prior to the opening of his iconic Paisley Park Studios, the predictably funked up track was one of four that Prince offered to blues singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt, having been originally written in 1981 for the Hookers, Prince's pre-Vanity 6 project.
