Royal Blood have dropped a new single.
Typhoons premiered as Annie Mac's Hottest Record in the World on her BBC Radio 1 show and is the title track of their new album, due out on April 30. They produced the majority of it themselves, though Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme handled production on the track Boilermaker.
Discussing the record, vocalist and bassist Mike Kerr said:
“We sort of stumbled on this sound, and it was immediately fun to play. That’s what sparked the creativity on the new album, the chasing of that feeling. It’s weird, though - if you think back to ‘Figure it Out’, it kind of contains the embryo of this album. We realised that we didn’t have to completely destroy what we’d created so far; we just had to shift it, change it. On paper, it’s a small reinvention. But when you hear it, it sounds so fresh.”
Similarly to previous cut Trouble's Coming, the song finds the rock duo experimenting with funkier and slicker soundscapes, while harking back to their earlier work with distorted bass scale runs.
The new track is available on 7" vinyl with an etching of a lyric from the song on the b-side. Head here for more details.
