Soft Cell Announce New Album '*Happiness Not Included' And Autumn UK Shows

Thursday, 29 July 2021 Written by Laura Johnson

Soft Cell have announced their first new album in 20 years.

'*Happiness Not Included' is due out in spring 2022 via a new deal with BMG, though an exact release date is yet to be announced. It will follow up 2002's 'Cruelty Without Beauty'. Frontman Marc Almond said:

“In this album I wanted to look at us as a society: a place where we have chosen to put profits before people, money before morality and decency, food before the rights of animals, fanaticism before fairness and our own trivial comforts before the unspeakable agonies of others. But in the album there is also a belief that there is a utopia if we can peel back the layers and understand what really matters."

Dave Ball added: “Recorded remotely during a world pandemic. Science fiction stories for the 21st century.”

Prior to the record's release, Almond and producer/instrumentalist Dave Ball will share a new single this autumn and showcase their new material during shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and London during November.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on August 6. The shows will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the duo's 1981 debut album 'Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret', with the pair playing the record in full for the first time, as well as their greatest hits.
