Bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard confirmed in a statement that Hill, real name Joseph Michael Hill, passed away in his sleep at his home in Houston, Texas, though they did not give further details.
"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. We will forever be connected to that "Blues Shuffle in C."

Earlier in July, ZZ Top played their first gigs in over 50 years without Hill, after he was forced to return to Texas to address a hip issue. Longtime guitar technician Elwood Francis filled in and took over the bass duties.
Founded in 1969, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have released 15 studio albums and four live LPs to date. They're best known for their singles Gimme All Your Lovin', Just Got Paid, and Legs.
It's reported that the band will carry on, with SiriusXM radio DJ Eddie Trunk sharing a message he received from Gibbons about the group's future plans. He tweeted: "Received this just now via text from @BillyFGibbons regarding passing of Dusty Hill @ZZTop. Billy told me okay to share w/fans: As Dusty said upon his departure, 'Let the show go on!' and…with respect, we'll do well to get beyond this and honor his wishes."
ZZ Top kicked off their latest tour, dubbed A Celebration With ZZ Top, less than two weeks ago in Manchester, Iowa. It's due to continue in August, with a rearranged Las Vegas residency set to start in early October. They also have Canadian shows in the diary for spring 2022.
