JOHN Announce Third Album 'Nocturnal Manoeuvres' With New Single Šibensko Powerhouse

JOHN have shared details of their third studio album.
The follow-up to 2019's 'Out Here On The Fringes' is called 'Nocturnal Manoeuvres' and will arrive on October 8 via the London duo's own Pets Care imprint and Brace Yourself Records. It finds John Newton and Johnny Healey realigning with producer Wayne Adams, who helmed both of their previous LPs, for 10 thunderous noise rock tracks.
As a preview, the pair have dropped Šibensko Powerhouse, a storming three-minute blast of piercing punky guitar, manic drums, and roaring vocals, assisted by Adam Devonshire of touring mates Idles. Newton said:
"The lyrics came from a now-distant memory of visiting a festival in another country. I remembered standing alone in baking 40 degree heat on the hillside outside of my apartment - only to hear a familiar song echoing live in the distance from over the hill’s crest. It was a once in lifetime moment that just stuck with me, a reminder of my small scale in the greater scheme of the world."
Healy added: "The track was the first thing we wrote following 'Out Here On The Fringes' - through which we had realised our ability to create a much more expansive sound - even with the physical limitations as a duo. Šibensko Powerhouse helped open the next chapter, setting the somewhat cinematic tone for what 'Nocturnal Manoeuvres' was to become."
Šibensko Powerhouse will be available as a 7" single on August 6 and follows their previously unveiled cut A Song For Those Who Speed In Built-Up Areas.
It comes with a Ryan Gander OBE-directed video that centers around an animatronic mouse singing lead vocal. Check it out below, along with the record's cover art and tracklist. Newton commented further:
"We've been fans of Ryan’s work since our studies almost ten years ago, so it was an honour to collaborate on the track’s video. His creative practice is so prolific and playful that we were genuinely excited to see what he could dream up in response to the music… Safe to say, we certainly couldn’t have anticipated the result (cockroach costumes etc!), but it certainly didn’t disappoint."
JOHN will hit the road for previously announced UK and Ireland shows between August and October, including appearances at Green Man Festival and End Of The Road. Tickets are on sale now.
