Orlando Weeks Releases New Single Deep Down Way Out

Wednesday, 25 August 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Orlando Weeks has unveiled a new song.

Deep Down Way Out is the second preview of the former Maccabees frontman's as-yet-unannounced second solo LP, following this summer's Big Skies, Silly Faces. His debut solo full-length release, 'A Quickening', landed in 2020.

Soothing vocal harmonies lean into a subdued beat and a Krautrock-esque rhythm on the new number, which unfurls at a much calmer pace than Weeks' previous dancey, alt-pop single. Both tracks are produced by Bullion. Weeks said:

"I never thought I'd make cliff top, roof down, drive into the sunset type music but, Deep Down does feel like that to me. A sort of stompy freedom. A very concise, two minutes of freedom. I think it's the best representative of the world myself and Bullion were trying to build on the album. Lean but full of buoyancy. In the absence of a convertible and cliff top I wanted the video to have that slight fanciful, otherworldliness and be unapologetically head-noddy. The otherworldliness comes courtesy of Daniel W Fletcher’s bespoke double-headed costume, made especially for the video. And the unapologetic head nodding is thanks to Lolly Adefope with Rik Burnell directing and pulling it all together."

Weeks will hit the road for a rescheduled UK tour in 2022. The dates were originally planned for this spring, before COVID-19 caused them to be moved to the autumn, and then again to next spring.
