Jools Holland Details Star-Studded New LP 'Pianola. Piano & Friends', Shares New Song Do The Boogie

Wednesday, 06 October 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Jools Holland has unveiled details of a new album.

The star-studded 'Pianola. Piano & Friends' will arrive on November 19 via Warner Music and feature the newly shared first single, Do The Boogie, a collaboration with German house pioneer Mousse T. and Holland's renowned Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Produced by musician Nitin Sawhney, with seven tracks written by Holland himself, the LP also includes team- ups with Trombone Shorty, Booker T., Tom Jones, David Gilmour, Dhani Harrison, Moses Boyd, YolanDa Brown, Herbie Hancock, Lang Lang, Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, Joe Bonamassa, Rick Wakeman, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, and Dr. John. Holland said:

"I'm humbled to have made this record with the greatest instrumental and vocal artists of our day. And so grateful to my lifelong friend the piano for making it possible."

Sawhney added: "It was such an honour and privilege to be asked by Jools to come on board as a producer for his new album 'Pianola. Piano & Friends'. Jools and I have met many times over the years whether through jamming together on Later and for his radio show, for the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall or via mutual friends.

"We share a common love for the piano and the rich variety of sounds, possibilities and artistry that can be reached by the frequencies and vibrations of its keys and strings," the British musician, producer and composer continued. "Watching Jools' thought processes and total commitment to his art has been particularly poignant during this crazy lock down period. We were constantly looking for new ways in which we could continue to optimise Jools' collaborations via the use of working with technologies and traditions both new and old. It has been a joy from start to finish, and I feel the sonic journey of the album perfectly encapsulates the pleasure we took in its creation."

Holland will support the record with previously announced UK and Ireland tour dates beginning later this October. Spanning 33 shows, including a brace of gigs at London's Royal Albert Hall, Holland will be accompanied by his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, along with guests Lulu, Vic Reeves and Holland's Squeeze bandmate Chris Difford.
