Cancer Bats Announce New Album 'Psychic Jailbreak', Share Title Track

Wednesday, 09 February 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Cancer Bats have announced their seventh studio album.

The follow-up to 2018's 'The Spark That Moves' is called 'Psychic Jailbreak' and will arrive on April 15 via their own label Bat Skull Records in partnership with New Damage Records in Canada.

It marks the Canadian hardcore punk mainstays first full-length to be penned and recorded by their current line-up of vocalist Liam Cormier, bassist Jaye Schwarzer and drummer Mike Peters, after the departure of co-founder and guitarist Scott Middleton in October 2021.

As a preview, they've revealed the first single and title track, which comes loaded with aggressive vocals and duelling heavy metal riffs, while conjuring images of mosh pits and primal energy. Cormier said:

"We needed to kick things off with a total banger of a track that makes you want to pump your fist in the air, smash your head to the beat, all while screaming the call to action REJECT THE FALLACY OF TIME!

"The concept of a Psychic Jailbreak is to completely change one’s perspective on something, in this case it’s our ideas of fixed linear time."

Head below to view the accompanying video, filmed by Sid Tang and edited by Mitch Barnes, alongside the record's artwork and tracklist. "My goal was to capture the intensity and power of the band, while still showing how relaxed and fun the whole recording session was," explained Tang.

The band will tour Canada with Comeback Kid in March and April. Head here for details. In May, they'll return to the UK for appearances at Slam Dunk festival.

1. Radiate
2. The Hoof
3. Lonely Bong
4. Friday Night
5. Hammering On
6. Crocodiles
7. Shadow of Mercury
8. Keep On Breathin
