Sting And Pet Shop Boys Lead Line-Up For Preston's BBC Radio 2 In The Park

The first acts have been announced for this year's BBC Radio 2 In The Park.
The event will take over Moor Park in Preston, Lancashire between September 6 and 8. For the first time, a Radio 2 In The Park Pre-Party will take place on the Friday (September 6) between 5-11pm, featuring Radio 2 DJs such as Sara Cox, Vernon Kay, Scott Mills, Rylan and DJ Spoony.
Fresh off his Sting 3.0 Tour, Sting (pictured) will headline the Saturday, accompanied by long-time collaborator Dominic Miller on guitar and drummer Chris Maas. The former Police frontman will run through select songs from his discography, including solo hits, rarities, and The Police classics, following sets from Sugababes, Snow Patrol, Craig David, Kim Wilde, Pixie Lott, Shaznay Lewis and Travis. Sting said:
"I've never been to Preston in my life, so I'm really looking forward to joining the Radio 2 line up as the Saturday headliner. I want to give a full picture of my entire career. Of course, I will sing Roxanne, Message In A Bottle, and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, but there will also be some deep cuts as well. We will be a trio on stage which is very flexible, and the songs are strong enough to take them back to their bare essence with no keyboards, no backing vocalists - just me, a guitar player and a drummer."
Pet Shop Boys will top the bill on the Sunday (September 8), as part of their summer Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Tour, featuring both their hits and latest singles from their new album, 'Nonetheless'. Also set to take to the stage on Sunday are Manic Street Preachers, Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge, Paul Heaton, Gabrielle, Shed Seven, Delta Goodrem and Haircut 100.
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe of Pet Shop Boys commented: "We’re looking forward to our first ever show in Preston and also to headlining this great annual Radio 2 event."
Tickets go on general sale at 8.15am on Tuesday (June 4).
