Hamilton Leithauser has shared another single from his upcoming solo album.
Burn The Boats showcases The Walkmen lead singer's new interest in a groove-led sound while offering storytelling lyrics about a party. It serves as the third preview of 'This Side Of The Island', due out on March 7 via Glassnote Records. Introducing it, he said:
"I finished this song in the spring of 2024, and then in the summer my friend sent me a link to a Joe Rogan event called 'Burn The Boats'. At first I thought, ‘Oh fuck. Aw shit. Oh fuck this shit!’, but then I listened to Joe Rogan’s podcast for the first time, and I learned that he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about and I don’t care about his nonsense.
"My song is about being at a party, falling in love with someone, and deciding you want nothing more than to go home with them. At the same time, the party’s now kinda boring, and you’d really like to speed up the process. ‘I wanna go home!’ Who can’t relate to that? I wrote a backup line for my friend Lachrisha, which was definitely inspired by Funkadelic, and the guitar playing was definitely inspired by David Bowie’s ‘Low’."
Leithauser previously shared Knockin' Heart and the title track from the record, which he co-produced alongside his wife Anna Stumpf and The National's Aaron Dessner.
He'll play a London show at EartH on February 17, before returning to New York's Café Carlyle for his seventh annual residency in March, marking his longest run at the venue to date. Tickets are on sale now.
Leithauser's most recent studio album, 'The Loves Of Your Life', was released in 2020. That same year, he put out a live record, 'Live! at Café Carlyle', which was followed by 2022's 'Dear God', a collaborative LP with Paul Maroon. The Walkmen, meanwhile, reformed in 2023 for North American and UK dates billed as the Revenge Tour.
