Rianne Downey Announces Debut Album 'The Consequence Of Love' And Accompanying Autumn Tour Dates

Rianne Downey has laid out plans for her debut album.
The Scottish rising star, who spent much of 2024 touring with Paul Heaton, will release 'The Consequence of Love' on October 17 via Run On.
Produced by Grammy winner Ryan Hadlock, whose résumé includes work with Zach Bryan and Brandi Carlisle, it features 10 tracks all written by Downey, with longtime collaborator Nathaniel Laurence contributing to some. Recording took place at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle. Downey said:
"From busking on the streets of Glasgow to releasing this record, it almost feels like my whole life has led to this moment. The title, ‘The Consequence of Love’, came from one of the last songs I wrote but it captures the heart of the whole album. Each song is the product of the consequence of love."
To coincide with the news, the singer-songwriter has shared the record's title track, which shows off country, folk and pop influences. The heartfelt offering was one of the last songs she wrote for the album, after watching her grandmother battle with dementia.
"It’s a reflection on the fragile nature of life and love," Downey explained. "I think naturally as people, we often hold onto a childlike belief that the ones we love will always be there, and it’s a painful realisation when life reminds us otherwise."
Her January single, The Song of Old Glencoe, will also feature on the album.
Downey will return to Glastonbury Festival next month for her own performance, having accompanied Paul Heaton on the Pyramid Stage in 2024. She'll also join the former Beautiful South and Housemartins vocalist for a number of shows and festival appearances this summer, alongside dates with Texas.
She will support the new record with her own headline UK and Ireland tour, her biggest to date, which includes shows in October, November and December. Tickets for those gigs go on general sale at 10am on Friday (May 30), except for the date in Hull, which is on sale now.
