Bright Eyes have released a new standalone single.
1st World Blues marks a notable shift from the Omaha trio's signature indie-rock sound, embracing a full-blown ska rhythm guided by frontman Conor Oberst's socio-political lyrics. Head below to view the song's Jared Sherbert-directed video, which was filmed in Brooklyn and features cameos from pro skater Nelly Morville, The So So Glos' Alex Orange Drink, and producer, musician and mixer Adam Reich. The band said:
"1st World Blues is an homage to ska in all its waves. From Desmond Dekker to Tim Armstrong, we’re just happy to add our track to the bin. The video is inspired by NYC '90s hip hop, which like ska, has a long tradition of unifying people and using celebratory music to convey subversive political themes. To be played loud. Windows down. Summertime."
The song arrives ahead of the group's upcoming tour dates along North America's West Coast, which will be followed by Asian shows in the autumn. Tickets are on sale now.
Bright Eyes released their latest album, and 11th overall, 'Five Dice, All Threes', in 2024.
