Militarie Gun have announced their sophomore album.
The Los Angeles post-hardcore band will drop 'God Save The Gun' through Loma Vista Recordings on October 17, following up their 2023 debut LP, 'Life Under The Gun' and last year's 'Life Under The Sun' EP.
Lyrically, the record looks at being at your worst when you should be on top of the world, with frontman and songwriter Ian Shelton reflecting on his personal struggles with addiction. He said:
"I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album. But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it. Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway – but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking."
To coincide with the announcement, the four-piece have shared the record's first single, B A D I D E A, a punchy offering that pushes the boundaries of hardcore with catchy hooks and power pop sensibilities. Head below to view the song's accompanying video, directed by Shelton, who added:
"I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting. This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done, and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’"
Militarie Gun have US tour dates lined up over the coming months, which include an appearance at Chicago's Riot Fest and shows supporting Frank Carter And The Sex Pistols. Head here for details. Tickets are on sale now.
