Fontaines D.C.'s Grian Chatten has shared a new song, Puppet.

Brooding and atmospheric, the post-rock track serves as the first single from the official soundtrack to Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the forthcoming feature film from series creator Steven Knight. It's due out on March 6, the same day the film is released in select cinemas, ahead of hitting Netflix on March 20.

Written and recorded by the frontman with long-term Peaky Blinders collaborators and composers Antony Genn and Martin Slattery, Puppet features on the 36-track album alongside new recordings from Chatten's bandmates Carlos O'Connell and Tom Coll, as well as Amyl and The Sniffers' Amy Taylor.

In addition to the original tracks, it also features a selection of songs from artists who helped shape the Peaky Blinders sound, including Nick Cave, Lankum, and Mclusky. Highlights include a new version of Cave's Red Right Hand, Chatten's collaboration with Lankum on Hunting The Wren (The Immortal Man version), and two striking Massive Attack covers, one by Chatten and the other by Girl In The Year Above. Chatten said:

"As I was working with Ant and Martin on writing these tracks, I had the joy of watching and rewatching the scenes, and different things would reveal themselves to me each time. It’s an interesting thing to not spoil or over narrate a scene and to allow the pictures to speak for themselves. It was a bit of a balancing act."

Written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man stars Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle, Barry Keoghan and Stephen Graham. Check out a trailer below.

The synopsis reads: "Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground."

Chatten also recently teamed up with Damon Albarn and Kae Tempest for the new song Flags, recorded for the star-studded War Child charity album 'HELP(2)', also due out on March 6.

Fontaines D.C. released their Mercury Prize-nominated fourth album 'Romance' in 2024 and will appear at several European festivals this summer, including a headline slot at Reading and Leeds. Tickets are on sale now.
