The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk from Claremont, California, currently featuring John Darnielle, Peter Hughes, Jon Wurster and Matt Douglas. Best known in the 1990s for low-fidelity home recordings.

Formed in 1991, as a solo project of John Darnielle, he released his debut album, ‘Zopilote Machine’, in 1994. It wasn’t until, 2002’s ‘Tallahassee’, that The Mountain Goats became a band and signed to 4AD. They are set to release their sixteenth album, ‘Goths’, on May 19, 2017 via Merge Records.
