Californian rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers have revealed that they wrote over 70 songs for their forthcoming album ‘I’m With You’.
Chili’s bassist Flea admitted that they wanted the record to be perfect and the band ended up writing dozens of songs. He also told BBC Radio 1 that the tracks picked for the album weren’t necessarily the best.
“What was important to us when we put the record together was to make sure that each song filled its own space and was not like another song on the record.”
“We wrote 70 songs, so it's not even necessarily all the best ones that we put on, but just the ones that occupy their own space.”
He went on to talk about the first single from the new LP, ‘The Adventures or Rain Dance Maggie’, saying that it wasn’t comparable to the rest of the record.
“'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie' - I like the song. It's a cool, simple, funky, little jam but it's completely different, there's nothing else on the record that sounds anything like it. It's a tricky one because all of the songs on the record are so different.”
The Chili’s are expected to announce a UK tour very soon – possibly as early as tomorrow – so keep updated on RHCP news with Stereoboard.
