Bloc Party Holding Auditions to Find New Vocalist

London-based indie rockers Bloc Party have sensationally announced that they’re looking for a new vocalist, just a week after regular singer Kele Okereke told press that he hoped he hadn’t been kicked out of the band.

Okereke told NME last Tuesday that he had spotted bandmates Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong all on their way inside a New York studio, without telling the singer – admitting he hadn’t spoken to them for months.

Now, after confusion over the Kele’s future in the band, Lissack has told NME that Bloc Party are holding auditions for a new singer, and that they’d be putting out music and playing shows alongside the new addition.

“It's not really a secret because Kele's been pretty busy doing solo stuff and it looks like he's going to be doing that a bit longer,” said guitarist Lissack. “The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music.

“We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows. I haven't spoken to Kele for a couple of months, I guess since the festivals when I was doing stuff with Ash. But there's no bad vibes.”

What do you think of the treatment of Okereke? Was it wrong to sack him without him knowing? Or did Bloc Party simply need to progress? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
