The Damned kick-off their 35th Anniversary tour of the UK next week, performing two of their most classic albums back to back at each and every show. The punk legends are also working on a new feature film documentary about the history of the band with ‘Lemmy’ filmmaker Wes Orshoski.
Instrumental in kick-starting the original punk rock scene, from brash simple beginnings, throughout their years The Damned have never been afraid to push themselves musically. Nobody, especially the band themselves, could have predicted they could last 35 years, so to celebrate this momentous occasion, The Damned are live in the UK in November, playing a set that consists of two of their classic album’s being played back to back.
The first part of the set will take the audience back to the roaring days of The Roxy and the 100 Club as the band blaze through their high-energy 1977 debut ‘Damned, Damned, Damned’. The second part of the set will see the 1980 released ‘Black Album’ played in its entirety.
In addition to the tour, the career of The Damned is coming to the big screen. New York-based filmmaker Wes Orshoski (the guy behind the recent 'Lemmy' film), is directing and producing a feature-length documentary on the group. Orshoski will shadow the band on their US and UK tour to combine new footage captured on and off the road with the current band members—including Damned founders David Vanian (vocals) and guitarist Captain Sensible—with archival clips and new interviews with many of the band’s famous friends and peers.
“I’m incredibly honored to be working with a band who I feel has registered as an immeasurable impact on artists from across the musical spectrum,” says Orshoski. “I feel like the Damned’s story and the scope of the band’s influence has gone largely unnoticed by the masses, especially in America. And I’m hoping my film will help right that wrong.”
