The Damned have announced a new covers album.
'Not Like Everybody Else' is a deeply personal and celebratory record that pays tribute to the memory of Brian James, the British punk-rock pioneers' founding guitarist who passed away in March aged 70. It will be released through earMUSIC on January 26.
Recorded over five days at Revolver Studio in Los Angeles, it includes renditions of songs by British invasion-era acts such as The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Creation, and The Animals. There's also a reworked version of Iggy and the Stooges' Gimme Danger.
As a preview, the band—vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Captain Sensible, drummer Rat Scabies, bassist Paul Gray and long-time keyboardist Monty Oxymoron—will share their take on There's A Ghost In My House by R. Dean Taylor as the record's lead single on Thursday (October 30).
The Damned will celebrate the album with a one-off covers show at Manchester's Albert Hall on January 28, performing tracks from the record alongside fan favourite covers. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (October 31).
They'll also mark their 50th anniversary with a previously announced career-spanning celebration at London's OVO Arena Wembley on April 11. They'll be joined by special guests The Loveless featuring Marc Almond, Peter Hook And The Light, and The Courettes. Tickets for that date are on sale now.
The band released their latest studio album, 'Darkadelic', in 2023 and followed it up with two live records in 2024.
