Metallica Joined By Rock Superstars For San Francisco Show

Thrash titans Metallica rounded off their run of shows at the San Francisco Filmore by inviting a range of rock royalty and metal superstars on stage to perform with them – including Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler.

The shows, which were an on-going celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary, had been getting rave reviews all week – but on Saturday night, the metalheads went all out and brought all their pals on stage for a handful of cover performances. Also joining them onstage was ex-arch enemy Dave Mustaine and Jason Newsted, who, after being kicked out of Metallica, went on to start Megadeth, as well as appearances from Lloyd Grant, Ron McGovney and Hugh Tanner.

Opening with classic ‘Orion’, the band played through a fan-pleasing 20 song set, which included an unreleased Death Magnetic song, some of their favourite classics and covers of Black Sabbath anthems ‘Sabbra Cadabra’, ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Paranoid’ – for which they were joined by Ozzy and Geezer.

They then smashed through a number of tracks with their guests – before everyone teamed up for possibly the most metal rendition of ‘Seek and Destroy’ ever seen, with ‘Tallica playing alongside Mustaine, Newsted, Lloyd Grant, Ron McGovney, Hugh Tanner, Mark Oseguda and The Soul Rebels.

Metallica and Black Sabbath will both be rocking out next year's Download Festival - if you're a fan of either, make sure you get down to see Metallica rip through the Black Album and one of Sabbath's first shows together since they decided to reunite.

Four videos of the show can be seen below.
