American alt-rock icons Pixies have claimed that they’ll be releasing even more music, following the release of their recent ‘EP-1’.
The Boston band surprised their fans with the four-track collection earlier this week (check out our review here), having released it to the internet almost unannounced, following up their recent comeback single Bagboy, which was released as a free download.
The band, who recently parted ways with long-time bassist Kim Deal, will soon hit the UK for an appearance at the iTunes Festival and a run of November dates. They've claimed that if they want to ‘keep touring like this’, they’ll have to keep the material flowing, which is exactly what they’re planning.
Speaking to the New York Times, frontman Black Francis revealed:
“If we’re going to keep touring like this, we need some kind of new story, a new life, something.”
The newspaper reports that their new EP was the first in a ‘series of mini-releases’ the band are planning to put out ‘sporadically over the next 15 months’. As manager, Richard Jones has said it doesn’t look like the band are going to ‘play by [the] rules’ and release an album and have opted for this mini series instead.
It’s more good news for Pixies fans, who are awaiting a series of UK live shows this November, and a newly-announced intimate gig at London's Electric Brixton at the end of the month.
