Metallica To Perform With Classical Pianist At 2014 Grammy Awards

Tuesday, 07 January 2014 Written by Jon Stickler

Thrash pioneers Metallica are to perform alongside classical pianist Lang Lang at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

The unusual performance, which will take place at the 56th annual Grammy Awards on January 26, will see Metallica and Lang Lang share the stage for one still-to-be-confirmed song.

A message on the band's official website reads:

"Happy New Year! We are kicking off 2014 with what will be one of the most unique performances of our career as we share the stage with renowned concert pianist Lang Lang during the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 26.

We're honored to be asked back to the Grammys to perform... it's been 22 years since the last time we hit the stage at the annual awards show! This performance will be truly special with Lang Lang, who has appeared on stages all over the world including the opening ceremonies at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, a White House state dinner, World Cup ceremonies, and the Nobel Prize concert in Stockholm among many other acclaimed appearances."

This wont be the first offbeat collaboration Metallica have been involved in, fans will remember the 2011 'Lulu' album with the late Lou Reed as well as their 1999 live album 'S&M' which featured music from the band alongside the San Francisco Symphony.

Metallica are currently working on the follow-up to 2008's 'Death Magnetic'. The band will preview new material while on tour across Europe in the Summer, with a headline performance recently confirmed for the UK's Sonisphere Festival in July. The band also confirmed that a new song will be part of their 2014 set lists.
