Jesse Malin Announces First Studio Album In Four Years 'Sunset Kids'

Monday, 03 June 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Jesse Malin will return with his first studio album in four years this summer.

'Sunset Kids', the follow up to 2015's 'Outsiders', is out on August 30. The record was produced alongside Americana legend Lucinda Williams and engineered by David Bianco and Geoff Sanoff.

It was recorded on both coasts between Malin and Williams' touring schedules and features two songs co-written by Williams — whom Malin sang about in the 2007 song Lucinda — including the jangly guitar-driven single Room 13.

The album also boasts appearances by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, who co-wrote and sings on Strangers and Thieves, and singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur, who features on three tracks. Malin said:

"From the early frontier days of hardcore in New York to all the punk rock and singer-songwriter touring. It's all been about survival and reinvention. I wanted to make an open-sounding record with the space to tell these stories. I like to write about characters and people I meet along the way. The dreamers, schemers, hustlers, romantics, lovers, leavers and believers."

The New York punk troubadour will accompany the release with tour dates in Europe in June. He also tours the US in the autumn.

'Sunset Kids' tracklist:
