King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard Announce Thrash Inspired Second Album 'Infest The Rats' Nest'

Friday, 21 June 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have announced their 15th studio album.

The prolific psych-rock seven-piece have lined up a summer release for their second LP of 2019, 'Infest The Rats' Nest', due out on August 16 via Flightless Records. It'll arrive just six months after their most recent album, 'Fishing For Fishies', which landed back in April.

Head below to view the artwork and tracklist for the record, which features 10 tracks influenced by the 1980s golden era of thrash metal, citing bands like Metallica and Slayer, as well Exodus, Kreator and Overkill. Vocalist and guitarist Stu Mackenzie said:

"In year four there was an older kid who was into Rammstein. I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to Du Hast. I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool. That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon Rammstein led to Metallica, Metallica led to Slayer, Slayer led to Kreator and Sodom.

"The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realised that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating."

The Melbourne band will support the release with a previously announced European tour this autumn, including their biggest UK show to date at London's iconic Alexandra Palace on October 5.

'Infest The Rats' Nest' tracklist:

1. Planet B
2. Mars For The Rich
3. Organ Farmer
4. Superbug
5. Venusian 1
6. Perihelion
7. Venusian 2
9. Self-Immolate
10. Hell

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s output is prolific. The Aussie experimentalists have released 15 albums since 2012, and while one can describe their basic sound as psychedelic rock, the reality is more complex. This is a band of rich imagination and elaborate generic diversity.

Wed 01 May 2019
After a ludicrously productive 2017 saw them release five albums, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have returned after a much needed two year break with ‘Fishing For Fishies’. It’s remarkable that a band as prolific as these Australian psychedelic masters attempts new things at an equally alarming rate, and here they have somehow managed to find another string to their bow.

Bleached’s return is powered by a desire for change. ‘Don’t You Think You’ve Had Enough?’ is the first album that the sisters Clavin, Jennifer and Jessica, have recorded since deciding to get sober, and it’s also a bold attempt to fashion their winningly bratty brand of garage-rock into more expressive, sophisticated shapes.
