Elbow Release New Track Dexter & Sinister

Thursday, 01 August 2019 Written by Laura Johnson

Elbow have returned with a new single.

Dexter & Sinister is the first new material to emerge from the Bury indie-rock band since the arrival of their last album, 'Little Fictions', in 2017.

The same year they released a cover of the Beatles’ Golden Slumbers, which soundtracked that year's John Lewis Christmas advert. It was also included on the band’s best of record which came out that November.

The new song is expected to feature on their upcoming album, which, if social media is anything to go by, is called 'Giants Of All Sizes' and will arrive on October 11.

The seven-minute track's off-kilter melodies and propulsive rhythm section accompany dark, candid lyrics that paint a disillusioned picture. "Take me to the sea. Let me peel and fade by the seaside. Where dead men go to die. And long standing affairs fizzle in the brine," sings Guy Garvey.

Elbow will headline The Big Feastival in the Cotswolds on August 25. They also have summer and winter shows lined up in mainland Europe.

We’re currently living through a time that’s as mystifying as it is terrifying.  Can any artist adequately convey that, and where would they begin? With the current state of our world leaders, or a certain referendum result and the ensuing madness? Possibly the devastation caused by unfathomable tragedies and senseless acts of terrorism? Fearlessly addressing those issues and more, Elbow’s ‘Giants Of All Sizes’ is a scalding state of the nation address and a prayer for a society that’s seemingly teetering on the brink of destruction.
