Following god save me, but don't drown me out, cotton candy serves as the latest preview of the pop-punk star's forthcoming LP, 'Weird!', due out on November 13.
Opening to a thumbed bass line, the track leans into the more restrained aesthetic of Yungblud's sound while exposing some deeply personal lyrics. "Cotton candy is about sexual liberation," he said. "To me sex and sexuality is about freedom and the idea that you can to lose yourself in other people of all genders, of all shapes and sizes to find yourself and figure out who you truly are.
"Sexual interaction should not be shamed, it should be celebrated because to have safe sex is to spread love and the world needs love more than ever right now. This song is so important to me because I see and speak to my fan base, facing insecurities around sexual interaction and I want to let them know that it is OK to be EXACTLY WHO THEY ARE and have the right to unconditionally love who they want and be loved in return."
Yungblud will support the record with The Weird Time Of Life Tour, a digital run of shows featuring full-scale production that will air across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia in November and December. Tickets are on sale now.
The 23-year-old multi-instrumentalist also heads out for a rescheduled UK tour in spring 2021 followed by appearances at Reading and Leeds festival in the summer.
