Julia Jacklin Posts Two New Songs To Perth, Before The Border Closes And Cry

Tuesday, 13 October 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

Julia Jacklin has shared two new songs.

To Perth, Before The Border Closes and Cry serve as the Australian singer-songwriter's contribution to the ongoing Sub Pop Singles Club. The tracks mark her first new music of 2020, following her 2019 sophomore LP 'Crushing'.

Jacklin recorded the 7" with her band, comprised of Jennifer Aslett, Christ Wright and Jacob Diamond, alongside Perth producer Ryan Brennan.

The former is a mellow, country-pop tune that reflects on travel and identity, while the latter is a similar but slower offering, with some lazy guitar strumming. Discussing the a-side, she said:

"I’ve moved around a lot the last five years; chasing things, love, work, something new, whatever and there’s always this fear that I’m leaving good things behind just to go somewhere else and be lonely. Whispering 'everything changes' to myself helps get me to sleep at night. I started writing this song in Melbourne and finished it in Perth. It was like a little song bridge between the two cities to make the change easier."

To Perth, Before The Border Closes also comes couples with a video directed and edited by Jacklin. Check out both songs below.
