Kendrick Lamar Posts First New Single In Four Years The Heart Part 5

Monday, 09 May 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Kendrick Lamar has shared a new single.

The Heart Part 5 arrives ahead of his upcoming album, 'Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers', due out this Friday (May 13), though there's no word yet if this song will be on the record as the tracklist has not been officially confirmed.

Produced by Beach Noise, the production and songwriting trio of Matt Schaeffer, Johnny Kosich, and Jake Kosich, the track finds Lamar delivering a sprawling flow over a sample of I Want You by Marvin Gaye. It also includes instrumental contributions from Kyle Miller and Bekon.

It's the latest instalment in a series of cuts Lamar has dropped throughout his career. Part one and two arrived in 2010, part three was released in 2012, and part four was unveiled in 2017.

The song's accompanying video, co-directed by Dave Free alongside Lamar, sees the rapper's face morph via deepfake technology into various celebrities, including OJ Simpson, Will Smith, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, and Nipsey Hussle. The lyrics often align with the person he's resembling.

'Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers' follows up 2017's 'DAMN'.
