Skindred Announce Eighth Studio Album 'Smile', Share New Track Gimme That Boom

Tuesday, 08 November 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Skindred have announced their eighth studio album.

As part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, the Welsh band will release 'Smile' next summer, marking their first release for Earache Records.

Although the record's release date is still to be confirmed, as a preview, the four-piece have dropped the first single, Gimme That Boom, which taps into their unmistakable ragga-metal sound, blending elements of metal, rock, reggae and dancehall. Explaining the motivation behind the song, vocalist Benji Webbe said:

"I was out shopping one day and I could hear someone building up asking me for a picture. The person didn’t care who I was with or what I was doing - they just wanted their picture. In this day and age, people want you and they expect to get you on tap, constantly giving you that ‘boom’ so they can get their Instagram Likes up. It’s important to remember that people can't give you that ‘boom’ all the time. People think because they follow you on social media, they own you."

He added: "It’s the ultimate ragga-rocking, dancehall-shaking, dutty-winding, head-banging, horn-waving creation… yes party people the ’Dreds dem back!"

Skindred are currently touring Europe as special guests of Volbeat. The trek hits the UK and Ireland in December.
