Corinne Bailey Rae To Play New Album 'Black Rainbows' In Full At Three London Shows In October

Corinne Bailey Rae has announced some very special London shows.
She's lined up three exclusive performances of her new album, 'Black Rainbows', at London's Ladbroke Hall on October 25, 26 and 28. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on June 22.
The follow-up to 2016's 'The Heart Speaks in Whispers' was inspired by pieces at the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago — a gallery, media archive, library and community center — gathered by Theaster Gates. The music explores Black history, "the journeys of Black Pioneers Westward, from Miss New York Transit 1957, to how the sunset appears from Harriet Jacobs' loophole."
As well as 10 tracks, the September 15 release will include Refraction/Reflection, a book featuring photographs of the Arts Bank by Koto Bolofo, plus live performances, visuals, lectures and exhibitions. The Leeds singer-songwriter said:
“I knew when I walked through those doors that my life had changed forever. Engaging with these archives and encountering Theaster Gates and his practice has changed how I think about myself as an artist and what the possibilities of my work can be. This music has come through seeing. Seeing has been like hearing, for me. While I was looking, songs/sounds appeared.”
As a preview, head below to listen to New York Transit Queen, the first single from the record that will be released as a limited edition 7" single on August 15. The song is a surprising departure from her soul and R&B style, and sees her diving headfirst into a garage punk-rock sound with gusto, and the result is a riotous, sub-two-minute stomper.
Corinne Bailey Rae will also support her new record with a run of US shows this fall, and a trio of concerts in Spain following her London run.
