King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will return to Australia for a tour later this year.
The prolific Melbourne rockers will perform in Sydney on December 2, 3 and 5, Brisbane on December 7 and 9, and their hometown on December 12 and 13.
Each stop on the Phantom Tour will see the band playing different shows, a rock'n'roll set, and a completely orchestral performance, backed by a 29-piece symphony orchestra of each respective city/state, led by conductor and music director Chad Kelly.
The rock shows will take place at Brisbane's Fortitude Music Hall, Sydney's Enmore Theatre, and Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Party Dozen will support in Brisbane and Sydney, with Barkaa joining in Melbourne.
Sydney Opera House will host the band's performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, while Brisbane's Princess Theatre will feature the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl will also host Orchestra Victoria, with Folk Bitch Trio supporting. Announcing the dates on social media, the band said:
"Australia, we’re finally coming home! It’s been too long, and we’re insanely jacked to be back. We’ll be rockin’ shit old school, and if you’re more of a Mozart freak? We got that too."
Tickets for each performance go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (May 23).
The dates will support the band's new studio album, their 27th, 'Phantom Island', which is due out on June 13 via their own (p)doom Records. They first announced the record last year, when the group also shared the project's title track. They've since shared two more singles, Deadstick and Grow Wings And Fly.
King Gizzard will also play both orchestral and rave shows across Europe and the UK in October and November, following US dates in the summer and their current run of European gigs. Tickets are on sale now.
