Dev Hynes has announced a new Blood Orange album.
Written, produced, and recorded by Hynes, 'Essex Honey' marks the musician and producer’s first solo full-length release in six years, and is set to arrive on August 29 via RCA. Reflecting on growing up in Essex, just outside of London, it explores how music has inspired and become woven into Hynes' life, and follows his 2019 mixtape 'Angel's Pulse' and 2018's 'Negro Swan' LP.
Featuring a cast of guest artists, including Lorde, Caroline Polachek, Daniel Caesar, Mustafa, and Turnstile's Brendan Yates, the album will include the two newly shared tracks Somewhere In Between and Mind Loaded. The former serves up ethereal dream-pop tones, while the latter is a more haunting and introspective offering that showcases contributions from Polachek, Lorde, and Mustafa. Press play below.
Hynes previously teased the record with his first new song in three years, The Field, which features The Durutti Column, Tariq Al-Sabir, Polachek and Caesar.
Earlier this month, Hynes announced a European tour for the autumn, which includes three dates at the Alexandra Palace Theatre in London on November 8, 9 and 10, with all shows presented in an intimate, in-the-round setting. He'll then play Electric Bristol on November 13, ahead of supporting Lorde at her Manchester AO Arena show two days later.
He'll also join Lorde and Turnstile as support at select shows on their respective North American dates in late summer and early fall, before returning to North America after his European dates for headline performances in Toronto and Brooklyn. Tickets are on sale now.
In the time since 'Angel's Pulse' and 'Negro Swan', Hynes has worked with a number of artists, recently appearing alongside Paramore's Hayley Williams on Turnstile's 'Never Enough' track Seein' Stars. He has also collaborated with Lorde and Turnstile on their respective new albums, following his 'Four Songs' EP in 2022.
