After 16 years of gradual evolution, The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die appear to have reached their final form. ‘Dreams of Being Dust’ doesn't just mark a stylistic shift, it represents the band’s full artistic actualisation and reveals the beast that was lurking beneath their post-rock exterior.

Opening salvo Dimmed Sun announces this rebirth with battering-ram drums and bludgeoning bass, while the coruscating 104 second rager Beware the Centrist delivers musical violence that's both cathartic and essential.

What elevates ‘Dreams of Being Dust’ beyond mere sonic brutality is its unflinching political fury. These are songs born from late-stage capitalism’s wreckage, with tracks like December 4th, 2024 — referencing the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson  — confronting systemic violence with uncompromising directness.

The album’s most devastating moment is Auguries of Guilt, where David Bello’s spoken-word delivery illuminates how history bends to serve power.

Yet for all its righteous anger, this remains deeply human music. Oubliette strips back to showcase haunting vulnerability, while the Brendan Murphy-featuring Se Sufre Pero Se Goza balances vicious energy with bittersweet refrains. The interplay between Katie Dvorak’s clean melodies and Bello’s harsher screams creates powerful tension throughout, being particularly evident on tracks such as Reject All and Submit.

‘Dreams of Being Dust’ is a band reckoning with both their artistic legacy and our collapsing world. By embracing their heaviest impulses, TWIABP have created their most essential work: music that doesn’t just soundtrack the apocalypse, but fights back against it with every crushing riff.
